Karl Thoms
June 15 1952 - January 5 2008

Karl Thoms was the best father, brother, and husband. He cared for his family more than anything. Age 55 he passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on June 15, 1952 in Taylor, MI the son of William and Virginia (Ruhlig) Thoms.  Karl married Ethel Christian on October 27, 1973 in Washington D.C. and had lived in the Ann Arbor area since 1974.  Karl was an employee of TCF Bank for 30 years and loved to travel, read science fiction and was known for his sense of humor.  Karl is survived by his wife, Ethel, one daughter, Cassie, three brothers, Gary Thoms, Grant Thoms, Mark Thoms and foster brother Garrett Daniels as well as a host of loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

 

 Ethel M. Thoms age 55 passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Arbor Hospice Residence from brain cancer. She graduated from Jamestown Business College in 1972 and moved to Washington D.C.  She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Karl C. Thoms in 2008. She married Karl in October of 1973 while they were both working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.  They met and fell in love at the USO.  Together they have one beautiful daughter, Cassandra (Cassie) Thoms.  She is survived by 9 brothers and sisters all over the world and was preceded in death by one sister in 2008. Her mother (Irene Percoski) survives her in Connecticut as well as many nieces and nephews.  She also has many of the Thoms family that have helped her tremendously to get through a very difficult year as well as a host of friends and neighbors.  She worked at the University of Michigan for 31 years.  Most of that in the Fellowships Office where she helped thousands of graduate students get their degree.  She also served as the first female president of the Ann Arbor Jaycees, later serving in State and National positions.
