This was his baby. It didn't look like this when he bought it. We all thought it looked pretty bad. But it wasn't long before Eric had it looking like this. It doesn't look like it in the picture, but she is the most beautiful shade of orange. That was Eric's favorite color. It was the only car like that on the island.
All the car fanatics just drooled over it.
There were boxes arriving almost weekly with parts, pieces, gadgets from all over the country.
He had done his research and found companies that would ship to the islands.
Then he would bring her down to his favorite mechanics and have them help him.
They grew to love Eric too, as much as they appreciated what he was doing to restore the car.
I recently stopped in to tell them thank you for always being so kind to Eric. Their response "how could we not like that kid, sometimes he knew more than us"
They also have Eric's picture and pics of the car up on the board in their garage. I was very touched by that.
As a mom, you always worry. Eric was so careful and its broke my heart to see how broken the car was after the accident. I walked around the car and all I could think of was how upset he would get if a bird pooped on it.
I remember a day in the cafe, Eric and I were standing behind the counter talking, all of a sudden he says "oh no" runs past me, grabs the windex and a paper towel and runs outside. He goes out to his car (of course it was always parked out front where he could look at it) I see him cleaning something.
When he came back in I asked him "what was that all about?" His response,
"Stinkin bird pooped on my girl" That is one memory I cherish, we both laughed so hard.
So sad that it was in this car that Eric left us. |
